Representatives of Statistics Poland took an active part in the conference of the European Forum for Geography and Statistics (EFGS) that was held on 10-12.12.2024 in Slovenia. Director Janusz Dygaszewicz, together with his team from Geospatial Information Division have been actively involved in the work of EFGS for many years.
During the ceremonial gala dinner on 10.12.2024, Director Janusz Dygaszewicz and his geospatial team were awarded with the Lars H. Backer Prize 2024 for their invaluable commitment to implementing solutions for the use of geospatial information in statistics, as well as for their many years of leadership of EFGS as President. The Committee highlighted the special contribution of the Polish team to the development of the integration of geospatial information with public statistics in the statistical production process as well as for the purposes of censuses since 2011. The Committee rewarded the outstanding work in the development of spatially referenced statistics, improving the access of statisticians to geospatial information, and significantly improving the usefulness and relevance of spatially referenced statistics in the process of making key decisions based on reliable data.
